Rotterdam Expects Container Growth from Additional Volume by Maersk Line and MSC

The Port of Rotterdam is anticipating a significant increase in container throughput thanks to its designation as an additional first and last port of call for the ultra-large vessels of the 2M Alliance, which includes Maersk Line and MSC.

Updated Europe-Asia Schedule

In the new Europe–Asia service schedule, Rotterdam will now be featured twice as the last port of call and will also become the first port of call on the AE10 service—the route with the fastest transit time between the Far East and Northwest Europe.

East-West Services Involving Larger Vessels

This expansion applies to 18,000 TEU vessels operating on four of the five East-West services. On the fifth route, operated with smaller 13,000 TEU ships, Rotterdam will no longer be a port of call.

Despite this, the Port of Rotterdam Authority expects a considerable net increase in containers handled by Maersk Line and MSC, thanks to the added rotations on larger, high-capacity vessels.
