A CMR consignment note is a transport document used in international road transport and sea freight to record the agreement between the sender, the carrier and the recipient. The document contains important information such as the nature of the goods, the weight and the dimensions, the sender and the recipient, the carrier and the date of delivery.

For domestic transport in the Netherlands, the standard consignment note is used as developed by the Stichting Vervoeradres. Through the use of this consignment note, the transport automatically falls under the General Transport Conditions (AVC2002). The consignment note has the name CMR consignment note and refers to the CMR convention.

Why is a CMR consignment note important?

The English, Russian, German and Polish CMR consignment notes, however, fall outside the national AVC. For the transport of dangerous goods, additional information must be stated in accordance with the Transport of Dangerous Goods Act and the ADR. For the transport of waste materials (within the meaning of the Environmental Management Act) a different document is legally required, the so-called accompanying note.
